Also, I missread your previous post about killing your desktop. I thought at first until I just reread it that you said you killed your laptop. The issue you mentioned on your desktop that it says it cannot find the operating system, it could just be that it has the boot drive out of order. If they are out of order in the bios, it wont load. Can you get to the bios if you hit the DELETE key when you start to power up? Or one of hte F1-12 buttons? If you can get into the bios, look for the BOOT order section. It will list the hard drives it can see, and let you rearrange what drive should be the boot drive. I have had it happen when a computer crashes, that the bios get messed up and rearranges your drive order and all of a sudden it will say cannot find NTLDR or operating system disk not found. Try that and see if you can see the drive(s) on your computer and if its a possible solution. If the hard drive is not physically crapped out, it most likely is that, or could just need to have Windows reloaded on it.

The eBay provider is sending me a new motherboard to discard. Everybody, think that these symptoms are motherboard failure. The processor (CPU) is not included in the motherboard and it is also expensive and not easy to get. Maybe next week I will give a feed back. Ed

Thats cool. Yeah your right, most of the time the MB is the first guess to the problem as it has so many things built onto it. The sound, video, mb itself. Its the root cause of so many issues with this, its most often the first replacement. If it were the cpu and could be swapped out easy enough, maybe one could be found for cheap?

My friend said he could find a CPU on ebay for $20, but he's not sure if my laptop's problem is really a cpu issue as the machine works perfectly after it's booted.  He wants to test a few other things before replacing the cpu.  I just have to wait for him to check out my laptop first.

Good idea. If it was $20, then that is money easily spent to see if it fixes something.

I am pretty sure on mine, its the video card. The video started acting really weird before mine died. Got really fuzzy, started warping and stuff. Weird stuff like that, so pretty sure that is what fried on it.

I also failed to mention, about a year and a half maybe after I got the laptop, the power cord block, melted! I kid you not, it melted! I called HP to request a new one, and they were all set to send me a new cord until I told them it melted. When I said that, they said "Oh, you have to talk to our safety-whatever-whatever-team and explain what happened. I cannot issue you a replacement until you do." I was livid. If I had told them it just stopped working, no problems asked, but because the thing almost and literally almost started a fire, I couldnt get a replacement until I spoke with someone else. The problem was, I couldnt get a hold of anyone in that dept. I called, left a message, then they called back one time as some weird hour, and when I tried to get a hold of them again, I couldnt get through again. I left messages and nothing. What a load of crap that was. Needless to say, I had to buy my own power cord and then a few months later a new battery to boot as the original stopped holding a charge.

The crap never ceases to amaze a person as to how bad a place can be run, really.

Just wanted to share that as I almsot forgot that was the beginning of oh so many mishaps with this laptop.

yeah, i don't have any of that weird stuff with my laptop.  Just takes too long to boot.  I realized that one thing i didn't test before  was to take the dvd drive out before trying to boot.  Because everytime when i start the computer, i can hear the click noise comes from the dvd tray (you know, like it's trying to boot from the dvd) and the dvd led light is blinking until the computer finally boots up and then the blink stops.  i didn't mention this before as i thought it was normal, but last night when i was talking to my friend, he said during the normal booting process, i should have not heard the click noise from the dvd or seen the dvd led light blinking since i didn't have any dvd in the slot.  It's sad that HP won't have any qualified technician to help us here in the forum.   I'm also not surprised about your awful experience with HP on your power cord trouble.  Again, it's sad that when a company cease to care or listen to their customers.

Yeah it is sad. They do see these forums, but when we are dealing with issues like these that require more than the "send it in for $400 and we will try and fix it" they wont respond to this thread.

I would definitely try the DVD unplugged. I just had a PC desktop 'fixed' by a local computer store, and they plugged in my dead floppy drive into the data ribbon and the power, and I didnt realize it. I went to start up the computer, and it was taking forever to load and the CPU was topped out at 100% constantly. I couldnt figure it out. Nothing was loading it for programs. Then I took the case side off again, and looked and saw the floppy was plugged in, unplugged it, started the computer up, and no problem at all. In your case, it could be just that, the computer is trying to see the drive or boot from it or soemthing. You could even just set it behind the main hard drive in the boot order in your bios and see if that helps. Might keep it from spinning up at all on bootup too before you go and unplug it manually.

Mine just started this today.  I have an HP G71.  When I turn it on, the fan starts, caps lock and num lock blink, then it shuts down and I have to turn it on again.  Fan runs and it stays on this time, caps lock and num lock still blinking together every 3 seconds, non-stop.  No screen at all, and after a minute or so no fan noises either.

When this started I was uploading photos from my camera.  I've done this a million times before, I have no idea why this happened.  I haven't had any problems up to this point.  I've tried the suggestions that were posted here and none of them have worked.  Right now my laptop is on, hoping that it will miraculously boot up eventually.

I'm not very computer literate, and I have files and photos on the laptop that are not backed up and I don't want to lose!  If I had some kind of warning I would've backed them up, but like I said, this came out of the blue.

Well, with the laptop not booting, you might not be able to get it up again. Sounds just like mine. It is dead, but fortunately I had everything important backed up. What you will have to do is pull the hard drive(s) from the computer, and hook them up to another computer to get all the information you need off of them. An external laptop harddrive enclosure will do the trick.
