Re: CD/DVD Drive Not Found

I have been having the same issue with my HP Pavillion DV 9500. I initially was running windows Vista but had several issues after loading SP 3. I loaded Windows 7 and it solved most of my problems however now my DVD Drive is not showing up. It shows up in the BIOS. It does not show up under Device Manager or Disk Managment. There are no upper/lower filters in the Registry. I have tried to run the Windows fixits for DVD drives and this has not worked either. I am getting extremely frustrated if anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: CD/DVD Drive Not Found

[ Edited ]

Hello,

I currently have a Compaq Presario F750US laptop, It runs Windows 7.

I went to put a disk into the DVD/CD drive and load a movie to watch, nothing happened. The light flashed like usual. So i went to "my computer" to see if it is there. IT Wasn't.

So i restarted the PC

Went to "BOOT OPTIONS" it doesnt show up there either

Loaded into windows again. Try all ur post so far and nothing has brought it back.

NEED major help. the CD/DVD drive does work. how do i get the laptop to recognize it again...?

Email at {Personal Information Removed} or reply here

Thank-you

James

Re: CD/DVD Drive Not Found

Hi JohnHicks

I started having problems with my dv6810us after reinstalling the software from the Recovery Discs due to at virus/malware problem. I noticed my Sleep function and the CD DVD player (among other things) were not working correctly, post install.

The same issues in your post plagued my cd dvd player. My CD showed in the BIOS, but not in Windows Explorer. SO, I followed all the solutions in this HP forum I could find, with no luck.

I Reset (Removed power/batt - pushed power button 30 sec - powered up)

I followed the RegEdit solution with no luck

Tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

with MS Fixit:http://fixitcenter.support.microsoft.com/Portal

I tried the Download XP_CD-DVD-Fix.zip

I physically removed the CD/DVD. Here's a step-by-step

After all that, I was thinking about the BIOS and thought maybe Flashing the BIOS would help. So I downloaded both the current(F.34) & previous(F.33) BIOS editions for my dv6810us.

I was running current(F.34) BIOS, so I Flashed to previous(F.33) BIOS with no luck. While in (F.33), using method above, I “Reset”, powered up and Flashed to F.34 BIOS.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/siteHome?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&os=2093&sw_lang=&product=top

Enter your computer to get drivers.

I can now access the CD DVD drive and it shows on My Computer.

The other issues still exist, but I hope this helps with the CD DVD.

Re: CD/DVD Drive Not Found

Hi.

The last few days im haveing prob. with the optical drive. I have HP dv 9700.  In "my comp" i  can read the two partitions C and D but not the CD\DVD drive. I also opened the device manager and i didnt find the CD/DVD drive.

Than i entered BIOS there is an option to boot from CD/DVD... but still nothing. The real problem is that i replaced the optical drive with few other THAT WORKS on another comp but its not working on mine.

When i start the comp or when i put a CD inside i hear it like it works but thats all , just for few seconds...

After that i tried to boot the comp useing external CD/DVD drive. I entered BIOS to change the options, to boot from usb .. still it doesnt want to load win files. What im trying to say is that i have no chance to reinstal my comp and i dont know if its the optical drive that needs replacement or is something on the motherboard...something is not working properly...some part where the optical drive is connecting with the motherboard.... Please help

P.S im sorry for my english im not from US

Re: CD/DVD Drive Not Found

F10 during boot. If DVD shows as a boot option then MB/Bios "sees" DVD Drive. If DVD is not an option then I'd say it's a DVD issue. If DVD is an option after F10 then I'd try a bootable disk other than Windows, Hirens Boot ,a boot disk of any kind that you know is good. If it will not boot then it is the DVD Drive. If it will read and boot from there then repost.

Re: CD/DVD Drive Not Found

This is what i read in BIOS.

System config. / Boot options

-F10 and F12 delay ( 0 ) sec

-CD ROM boot enabled

-Floppy boot enabled

-internal network adapter disabled

BOOT ORDER

-usb floppy

-ATAPI CD/DVD rom drive

-notebook hard drive

-usb diskette on key

-usb hard drive

network adapter

As much as i understand BIOS sees DVD drive. I also instaled HP assistant and i doesnt see optical drive. I tried to boot it with Hirens Boot and it doesnt work... I think i need new DVD Drive ... Any other sugestions ?

Re: CD/DVD Drive Not Found

How would you actually remove the DVD / CD-RW Drive to re-seat it ?
