I have a Compaq CQ60-215DX laptop with vista 32-bit that was purchased in 2008, so it's way past the warranty. I have had a lot of problems with this laptop.
A year after I had gotten the laptop, it started getting really hot and eventually overheating and shut itself down all the time. I had to keep a fan on it all the time. Eventually the fan stopped working completely. Then, the left screen hinge had lost a screw somehow, i think a piece of the plastic broke, but it resulted in me not being able to close the laptop. When I would shut it, the plastic back of the screen would come apart from the bezel and start to crack. I fixed the screen first by purchasing screws and taking everything apart. It shuts fine now. I also took the laptop apart to remove the dust bunnies that had made the fan stop spinning. It no longer overheats. Those problems have been fixed.
Recently, two months ago, my battery stopped working and in the rare occasions I use the laptop I just plug it in. Now a couple weeks ago, the laptop will not turn on at all, even while plugged in. I had just used it the day before. The jack light does come on, but when I push the power button there is nothing. No noises, no flashes, nothing. Just the jack light. I have tried a different battery and a different cord. The ac adapter works for my other laptop.
I really would like to try and fix this before I throw it away and buy a new one. Is it the motherboard? Or maybe the power switch or something that got disconnected? I also had someone break a bunch of my things, they might have dropped it on the ground or something and something just needs to be readjusted?
