Ive had this CQ60 for 7 months now, and while generally reliable, it always seemed a bit off. It is factory installed with 3GB of RAM. Recently, when considering finally making the jump to 4 Gb, I ran a program called CPU-Z that showed me something strange.
My computer is installed with two DIFFERENT speed Ram modules (wtf??). One 2GB 800 Mhz, and one 1 GB 667 MHz. For whatever reason, as a result the RAM re-adjusted itself to 333 Mhz!
Now, because of some assembly line screw up, I know I must upgrade either way.
Can this machine, the Compaq Presario CQ60-200, run 8 GB of RAM?
Either way, WHY was I given the wrong RAM? Whoever put this comp together must have been missing an arm, because the heatsink fell out of place in the first two months as well. Whats next? Monitor gonna fall off? Way to go on quality control, HP.

System will run at the speed of the slowest memory stick. There is no need to add more than 2GB of RAM in a notebook. Un-used RAM does not improve system performance. The major bottlenecks are the pre-loaded crapware and the slow hard drive. A notebook is designed for web browsing and office duties.
I concur that these cheap notebooks have poor quality control. You get what you paid for. Spend $1000-$1500 for a Panasonic Toughbook if you want quality workmanship and robust design. The US government and major corporations use Toughbooks for field applications.
Get a custom desktop if you need to play the latest games or edit/encode video.
