Compaq CQ50-115NR: Will not start (has power)

I bought this laptop in August 2008.  Now it will not start.  The last thing state that it was in was standby (cover was closed).  When I push the power button, I hear a little noise, not like the normal start up noise.  Then silence.  The power light will stay on as well as the Wi-Fi light (orange--not active). 

I have no idea what to do. 

Anyone have any ideas?

Compaq CQ50-110US same probelm. I send it back to HP two times in two weeks, never fixed. HP may just wait until the warranty expire.

Can You both Run Bios?

Can run Bios after 10 to 50 times try. Runed one to three times after each time computer back from HP. Also one time after remove and re-insert hard drive and rams. Use the Bios tested the hard drive, passed. Tried 20+ times after test, never have display, give up. Email to HP last week, no respones till now.

I just had the same thing happen to me. I rarely use the laptop, but when I turned it on recently, the display doesn't work and the orange light for the wi-fi stays lit.  I opened up the laptop, seeing that since I was out of warranty, to see what I could find.  Is there supposed to be a blue piece of foam separating the nvidia gpu from the heat sink? it's as if there is no connection between the gpu chip and copper pipe used for cooling.

Mark, I would resubmit the unit for service. Be sure to tell them of the previous 2 repairs. Also, where did you purchase the unit?

I have the exact same issue coming out of sleep or hibernation.  From what I understand it is the digital control on the nvida chipset not telling the system to wake up.  Has anyone gotten any help from HP?

This has been slowly occuring more often to now the point I can't do anything to wake it.  I have pulled every possible addon (memory, HD, WiFi, ...) nothing will get it's attention.

And ofcourse I am out of warranty as well.  I bought in Aug 2008 from BestBuy.

Same- August 2008, Best Buy, had message "graaphics driver failed, but recovered" a couple times last week, then today it cuts to a white screen, and upon restart i get the power and wlan lights, but no display and no sound of cooling fans... Gee, I wonder if theres something wrong with a whole batch of these and if anything will actually be done about it? Will likely be shopping tomorow: it will not be a compaq, and I will not get it at best buy...

The same thing just happened to me, from best buy Aug 2008.  HMM, did anyone get help?  I was using mine at the time, screen truned white and now no screen display.
