Compaq Presario F763NR Notebook audio out / speaker sound problem.

I have a Compaq Presario F763NR Notebook which has been working just fine, except for one weird soundcard behavior.  I like to use the laptop for presentations or movies with a proyector, and I use the front audio out jack to connect to speakers or RCA audio jacks on the back of a TV.

It's using Conexant HD-Audio SmartAudio 221 Driver version 4.36.7.60 A. BIOS version is F.08, both are the most recent.

When you connect a plug to the front audio out, the integrated speakers get disabled, you remove the plug, they work again. All good up to that point.

The problem is when you shutdown the computer with the audio cable still connected to the front audio out, or sometimes after you have been using the front jack, and shut down without the audio plug inserted. After rebooting, the integrated speakers will not work anymore. Sound only ouputs through the front audio and I have to use USB headphones. Even after reinstalling the drivers, disabling and reenabling the sound controller in device manager, uninstalling-reinstalling the sound drivers, the speakers wouldn't work.

I found a way to get around that by shutting down with nothing connected to front audio out, inserting an audio plug, then turning the computer on. That seemed to re-activate the internal speakers again like a switch. But it works randomly, and I still get stuck with no integrated speaker.

Right now I can't activate the integrated speakers again, and it's very frustrating.

Anybody have a good answer?

Thanks.
