I have a presario F768 that will not boot. Blue power light is steady at power cord. When I press the power button, the blue power light at the button lights with the power indicator and hard drive indicator. After a second, all lights go out. power indicator at the front panel goes out for a second then back on.
I have tried hard reset, removing the memory and hard drive and still same symptoms.
This started after a Vista update hung and computer had to be powered down manually.
Solved! Go to Solution.

You can verify that by disconnecting the hard disk.
With the hard disk disconnected press the power button.
If the notebook starts up and you see a warning that says "Bootable OS not found" then the hard drive has failed.
post the results of the test here in your thread.

erico

Sorry about that. Of course it is.
You will need to clear CMOS which effectively resets the BIOS.
Here is the Service manual for your laptop series. Go to page 44. The instructions are pretty straightforward.
You are lucky. Most laptops require serious disassembly to get to the RTC battery.
Remove the battery for a couple of minutes.
Best regards,
erico

Sir, you are helping me fix my computer, so no problem. I figured you mis-understood my comment.
I will pull the batt and see what that does.
Thanks!

I removed the RTC battery (per procedure), waited 10 minutes reinstalled and same symptoms.

sounds like your motherboard has went bad, i know for a fact that the F700 series laptops shipped with NVIDIA GeForce Go graphics. which plauge HP and Compaq notebooks. what you described sounds just like what everyone else has experienced this same problem.
