Cooling fan

Hey I have a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop with Windows 7 64-bit, and for awhile the fan was making some pretty loud noises, then eventually just stopped. Now whenever I try to start it it says that I have a cooling fan that isn't operating correctly and that it has to shut down.

 

Weird thing about it though, I went and downloaded the newest BIOS update to see if that would fix it, and while it's installing the fan will start up just fine and run smoothly until it's finished updating, at which point it just shuts down again. 

 

Any help would be appreciated. Would prefer not to send it in if I don't have to.

mine is doing the same thing did anyone tell you how to fix it?
