DV9627cl motherboard death

So my wife's laptop dies about 2 weeks after the 1 yr warranty expires. She was sufing the net and *plink* is just turns off and cannot be restarted. Nada. If it were a desktop, I could fix it, however, I've never messed with a laptop so we made the mistake of taking it to the Geek Squad. I know... I know... she was desperate and I was tired of hearing about it. Their diagnosis is that the motherboard needed replaced and that it would cost $800. Obviously, at this point, we could buy a new laptop that's twice as good for the same price.

However, she loves this laptop. They bonded, apparently. I can't find out exactly which motherboard this needs. I tried to get HP to cover it under warranty considering that it died so close to the warranty, but you can guess where that got me. Any thoughts or ideas? We can't afford to buy a new laptop for her right now.

Re: DV9627cl motherboard death

You have have HP repair it for $398 plus tax.  This price includes shipping/parts/labor.

You could also order the motherboard here and install it yourself if you're confident.  The part number is 466037-001 if you want to Google it.

Did you buy it with a credit card?  If so, check the Ts & Cs on the card.  A lot of them extend a manufacturer's warrantee by a year if you used their card.

Re: DV9627cl motherboard death

That's a great thought (wish I'd thought of it) however, I bought it with a debit card from Sam's Club. Hmm... I should check the debit card's fine print.
