DV9812us is absolute gabage, HP knew it before they put it out, failed to resolve their screw up

How can a company knowingly produce a product with defective parts? I.e. - crappy motherboards (or nvidia chips, whichever) that constantly overheat, dvd rom drives and wifi chips that fail or are intermittent for no reason. With so many people having the same issues, how was a recall never issued?!? And to top it off, you want $250+ to fix these P.O.S's?!?!? NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER AGAIN WILL I BUY AN HP PRODUCT!!! My dv9812 (that's only a few years old) constantly overheats and shuts down, the dvd drive hasn't worked in ages and recently my wifi refuses to work, or even show up in device manager. I even resorted to completely wiping out my computer and starting from scratch, but that did NOTHING. Updated every driver I possibly can as well as BIOS. This things will soon be in a scrap heap. . . $1000 horribly wasted. Thanks for nothing HP. You've just lost a customer.

dv9812us was released in March, 2008. Yes, they have known problems, but HP is not going to do anything about it at this point. You can get it fixed for much less than $250. As little as $50 if you can remove the motherboard yourself. Keep in mind we are not HP, we are end users just like you.

I highly doubt it's worth the $50, you think it is, to repair it! And forums with end users like you and I appear to be the only way of having the slightest way of SOMEONE from hp to hear my frustration, seeing as how I'd have to PAY to even send an e-mail to them, let alone call and talk to someone. I understand its been 4 years, but I rarely used it, partly because it started acting up shortly after I got it. Hopefully they've upped their quality control.

Yeah I run across a lot of people in your boat and my advice is always not to put another nickel into them. In modest defense of HP, when the dv9500 series came out after the really awful dv9000 series, the full extent and cause of the problem was not known. It later developed it was nVidia who is responsible for the design of the video chip. nVidia wound up bearing the brunt of the financial hit on these things although it has never been acknowledged officially that the dv9500 series is not really any better than the dv9000 series.
