DVD drive not recognized

I am using an HP TX2-1020us wih Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit).  I used DriverMax to update my drivers.  Now, dvd drive is not recognized.  It does not show up in Device Manager.  I can attach a DVD drive via USB and it works.  There is no error message.  I have used two different drives and neither work.

Microsoft Fix It does not see the dvd drive.

Any ideas?

Since the system does not recognize either one of the drives that I have tried, these tests do not find the drive as well.

Hi,

I don't think updating driver would break your optical driver physically. My suggestion: Roll back using Windows restore, if still could not fix it, you may have to reseat the drive.

How do I tell which driver to update since the DVD drive is not listed in the Device Manager? I think the driver is the answer, but I do not know which one it is. I am going to try the roll back and see where that gets me.
