Different flash codes

Hi,

Sorry this is a repost because I got no response. It is a weird situation. About 4 months ago my DV1002nr booted up flashing the num and caps light 3 flashes. I tried the alternate memory slot PC booted fine. Last week same symptoms. I tried the old original slot again without any luck. I purchased a new memory module and tried it in both slots without success. Reading all about the laptop I decided to buy a new motherboard. The first one arrived and I got 2 different flash codes when the memory was in different slots. 3 flashes in one slot and in the other slot I got 2 flashes. I sent the board back and just got another board. Again I am getting the same two different codes. With the memory in the slot closest to the motherboard I get 3 flashes, with the memory in the outer slot I get 2 flashes. I powered down, removed the battery, held the power button for 30 seconds tried to power up without the battery and only the power supply. I tried with one memory module then with two memory modules and I got the same flashing lights.  2 flashes with memory in the outer slot and when placed in teh other slot 3 flashes. I  have no idea what to do now.

Thanks,

John

Re: Different flash codes

Not sure what else you can do to troubleshoot, HP does not go in depth about the 3 flash code, but what I do know is bios does test All memory on the motherboard, which could mean the memory in the processor is faulty, no guarantee, but is about all I can suggest.

Re: Different flash codes

Thank you for your response. I never thought of it that way but you are correct. It does work with a memory base. I tried two alternate motherboards that the seller said tested good. I tried new memory sticks in both slots. I never thought of the CPU as a "memory" unit as well. I have a new CPU being shipped and will reply again to this thread with the repsonse just for future HP users that ever get different flash codes from different memory slots...

Thanks again,

John
