Hi,
I just bought a 4g notebook on August 12, 2012. I haven't saved much yet in my "drive D" however, it shows it's almost full. It's total capacity is 20.3 GB and total space available is now only 255 MB. I am really wondering why. I hope to solicit answers from you guys.
Thank you in advance.
P.S. Please see below screenshot of the drive D status.
Sincerely,
Rain

Hi Rain,
Nothing should be saved to the D Partition as it contains the files necessary to perform a Facory Reset etc - please see the document on the following link regarding this.

Thank you.
My friend told me that it's safer to save my files in Drive D because if something wrong would happen to my laptop, I won't lose any data from this Drive should my laptop be reset. Is it true?
Regarding the available space in my Drive D, do you have any idea what consumes the biggest part of the drive that it looks almost full?
Thank you once again for your response.
Sincerly,
Rain

Hi Rain,
You should definitely not store any files in this partition - it is designed to be just large enough to contain the files required to reinstall the operating system without causing a 'Low Disk Space' error. Storing anything else here can cause the Recovery process to fail, so they should be removed as described in the link in my previous post.
If you want to back-up your personal files, a good option is to buy an external Hard Drive and store them here.

DP-K

Thank you once again. I'll follow your advice.
One more thing, this is not related to the drive. Sometimes, when I try to shut down my laptop, a message would appear that says I should not unplug the notebook because an installation is running 1 out of 4.. It's actually time consuming.. Any thoughts on this?
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Rain

Hi Rain,
You're welcome ![]()
Regarding the installation that runs when you shutdown, what happens if you let it complete, or does it keep occuring even if you do? Are there any error messages regarding this?
Regards,
DP-K

Hi David,
How are you?
I really need your help. This installation thing is really bothering me.
I encountered it again and again. It says, "Please do not power off or unplug your machine. Installing update of 1 of 4". Usually when I opened/turned on my laptop or after I turned it off. I don't what are these updates for but it's consumed my time and delayed my tasks.
How can I get rid of this update? Please help, David.
Thank you for your time and support.
Sincerely,
Rain

Hi Rain,
Try the following.
Open windows Control Panel. Next to View by: in the top right select Large icons. From the list now displayed, scroll to the bottom and open Windows Update. Click the Check for updates link in the top left. When this has finished checking, click View available updates and remove the tick from all but One of them. Click Install Updates and let this be applied. When it has installed, if you are prompted to Restart, do this.
Repeat the above process so you just install One update at a time. If an Update fails, just ignore it for now and select the next Update.
If during this process you had a failed Update, try it again when the other Updates have been installed using the above procedure.
Let me know how you get on with this.
Regards,
DP-K
