Dv6t Touchpad Button Loose

The left-click button on my Dv6t's touchpad is loose and possibly broken due to normal use. It sits lower than the right click button and sometimes gets stuck when it's not pressed directly in the center of the button.  The laptop is no longer under warranty, and I don't know what to do to fix it. I attempted to take apart the laptop to see if I could see exactly what the problem was, but I couldn't get the top cover off of the laptop to see under the touchpad. I know they sell replacement top covers for around $100, but even if I bought the spare, I don't know if I would be able to install it. I even looked at a service manual for my computer, but I still couldn't remove the top panel which includes the touchpad. It's very frustrating. Sending it to HP would take weeks, and they might charge even more money to fix it. Any ideas?

Re: Dv6t Touchpad Button Loose

The clearance between the touchpad and the hardrive is very small. If you reset your hard rails to provide some space this might help.

Re: Dv6t Touchpad Button Loose

I have the same problem on my DV4.   What was your solution?   I got a wireless mouse for work but use it on the train where the external mouse isnt convenient.  Appreciate any tips.   Thx.

Re: Dv6t Touchpad Button Loose

Mine just happened a week ago. I was in class, bored, and managed to pry the button up using a mechanical pencil  :smileyvery-happy:. The button has two prongs on the lower part of it that slides in and holds it in place. It is very similar to the back of a tv remote. The prongs are very small and fragile and with normal wear and tear break off. I've looked online everywhere for a replacement but i haven't found any. But im 99.9% positive that this is your problem. The button rides lower, gets stuck if you push it to the left, wobbles while in use. Hope this helps.

Hi, have you been able to fix the button? If so, what did you do?

Re: Dv6t Touchpad Button Loose

I have the same issue with mine.  Unfortunately broke down right before the warranty.  Along with my "a" button on my laptop which is a DV4.  Sounds like an inherent problem that should be recalled.

Re: Dv6t Touchpad Button Loose

Yes.. Issue too as well. DV6-1350us.. left button is loose, Don't see an eay way to get the cover off to atempt to repair. I see where someone said there are 2 clips like remote controls have.. I believe one is broke, thats why its loose.
