I know what you mean! Everything in the george forman is cooking but the webcam.....tut tut... such a small device that's rarely goes wrong.. even the cheapest webcam you can buy has better light and color!
Well, I'll stop complaining for now..with low light compensation off, I tweaked my setting to at least get a bit of color here:
Could work differently for you guys, I did this on a bright day, no lights on, sitting by a large window ![]()
I'm contemplating ripping this puppy open and raplacing the webcam altogether!

Anyone come up with a solution yet?
Any recommendations on a good clip-on webcam?

i'm really dissapointed with HP , i bought the computer for 1500 $ , and the camera look awful !!!
i don't understand why HP don't release a fix to it , i don't think it's a hardware problem , it's probably fixable by some software tweak . why HP crew ignore our requests and not tell us the truth ? the camera is pure purple ....

Yep. I have, not one or two but three lap tops from, Yeah you guessed it, your favorite PC Manufacturer, HP.
display problems on my 2 year old dv2500 and scratches on the monitor on two newer HDX lap tops, and they are doing nothing about it after 2 years of people complaining on this and other forums.
No worries everyone! ! ! !. I have found the solution to my problems and yours as well.
DO NOT BUY ANY HP PRODUCTS ANYMORE.
THEY HAVE LOTS OF DESIGN FLAWS AND THEIR ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT IS STILL GETTING PAID TO BUILD JUNK ! ! !
AS LONG AS YOU KEEP BUYING, THEY'LL KEEP BUILDING JUNK ! ! ! ! !
WHY???? BECAUSE THEY FIGURE WE ARE TOO DUMB TO FIGURE IT OUT ! ! ! ! ! AND IF WE KEEP BUYING,,, MAYBE WE ARE.! ! ! !
SO,, WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO?????
With all due respect,,,,,XDELL.
Soon to change my log in name to,,,,,, 4DELL.
Because software issues are better than HP JUNK ! ! !

Hi all.
I bought by Envy 15-1270CA a month ago. I've noticed the screen has been dimming and brightening of its own volition. This is not associated with the webcam.
This is slightly annoying and/or troubling.
I'm wondering if it's suggestive of a much deeper problem with the monitor, requiring a return/service? Or is it a glitch with the ambient light sensor?
I've looked at the HP self diagnosis page, and it suggests that a flicker in the monitor suggests a problem. But this is less a flicker than a dimming, brightening. Still, the HP website instructed me to told me to call HP Support.
I have called HP Support hotline for Canada four times and have been disconnected from the call all four times, twice after a lengthy wait. GRRR.
So, if any expert has advice for me, I'd love to hear it.

After searching around on the web, I could not find people complaining about the problem about the webcam on HP Envy 17. So, I removed my old drivers on HP ENVY 15 CTO and installed the new HP Webcam driver from ENVY 17. The new driver seems to improve the picture quality. Also, this gives you a new user interface and puts some useful Aps liek hulu and Netflix on your laptop to play through HP Smart media.
So far, I did not get any errors or crashes.
But use at your own risk. Here is the link for the driver that I used.
I am still not satisfied with the webcam on a $2000 laptop. They used such a low quality webcam

Hi, Sorry you have encountered problems with your webcam picture quality. Actually, the webcam on this model had unique "night vision" capabilities and the result was undesired behavior under certain ambient lighting conditions such as outdoor or incandescent light. A new webcam lens is available, but will require contacting HP and sending your unit in for service. I hope this helps.
I work for HP
