I have an Envy 17. The headphone port works correctly, but the mic port is causing some issues.
The input from anything connected to the mic port is either nonexistent or very quiet, distorted, and accompanied with static. Something else I've noticed is that when I plug anything into the mic port without something plugged into the headphone port, the Beats Audio interface says that something is plugged into the headphone port. The only way for it recognize that something is plugged into the mic port is to insert the plug in part of the way. However, doing this results in a very loud, static input.

I came here hoping to find some details but I can at least expand on what you two have.
The reason a standard microphone is not working for you is that they used a different port for the input. It's just like the iPhone which has Sterio Output and Microphone Input in the same jack. What I want to know is, can I get a converter for a standard microphone input to work properly in my Envy?
If you look at the headphones that come with the iPhone you notice there's 3 white bands intead of just 2. The jack itself is also a bit longer to accomodate the 3rd band. The reason regular microphones don't work is the 3rd band for input has to reach deeper into the jack than it normally does on a stander mic input jack.
