Well I had a perfectly good G60 Laptop and, at 59 forgot I had all the specs on another drive I needed to finish installing drivers, I instead decided to pull screws out to get all the chip specs separately.
When I woke up from my AARP haze and I put them back ,the battery latch became sluggish. Even though it looks like the spring is still in and I can slide it close, it doesn't hold the battery very well. The battery parts are good, not worn or broken at all.
Can I fix it? Can I replace it? Do I have to tear everything apart? Should I continue to punish myself with whips and walk on broken glass because this was really dumb...? Anyone been down this road before?

The battery may look good but you may have accidentally broken a piece off the base chassis, look around that area to ensure nothing is broken or missing. A good reference would be the service manual for your specific model,

I have an HP G50 that had a very similar issue. The latch wouldn't hold the battery in at all. After looking over ther battery very closely, I could determine that it was ok, and that there were no missing pieces. I then turned my attention to the latching mechanism. If the G60 is anything like the G50, you should see 2 little latches inside the battery compartment. Makse sure that the plastic catches have not broken off. This was my problem and therefore I had to order a replacement latch and install it. While it was an easy fix, and my battery is now held securely in place, I did have to completely dismantle the entire laptop to get access to it. The other possible problem is that the spring or the little plastic tabs that hold the spring have broken. The replacement part that I purchased only cost me $7.45 after shipping on eBay, and it included the spring and sliding screws that hold the latch in place. Good luck!

Well I finally got busy and your broken latch is my problem as well. I took my laptop to Batteries + and the latch isn't working and, after more extensive expert work by me, the spring is gone now too. Although, I think it's not broken. I think where I went wrong was unscrewing the sliding screws you mention. Is there a good place to get instructions detailing the breakdown of the G60. Knowing my luck know, I will end up with a pile of screws and have to buy a computer to put them in.
