Re: HDD UPGRADATION

you'll also need to get your hands on the recovery disks or a disk cloning software since your laptop does not have the ability to hold two HDDs it seems.

Once you aquire your New HDD from whatever company, usually the site  for the new HDD will have some special software based around it so you can make a 1 to 1 copy of the entire drive from boot sector to data. just make sure you have everything backed up because i'm sure glad i have in the past.

otherwise, if you want to just make a clean install for your new HDD, simply back up your personal information to a USB flash drive or a portable HDD. then switch out your HDDs, making sure to be properly grounded and following the link in "Cyclops"s reply. then put in the recovery disks you either got with the machine, you ordered or you burned yourself (for me, i had to burn my own) and then you should be good from there. the recovery program HP has is quite easy to follow. should you have any issues, HP phone support should be able to guide you if you dont own another PC.

If a man says "Get a Mac." show him pity because it's probably because he has never owned a PC or anything better. If a man says "Use Linux", buy him a beer because he is you're new best friend.

Re: HDD UPGRADATION

Yes you can use a 500 gig 7200 rpm drive. If I had to replace a hard drive right now on a laptop I would go with one of the new hybrid drives.

Seagate Momentus XT

buy here

Re: HDD UPGRADATION

Kumar, So the core mechanical of 7200 RPM Hard drive remain the same...If the 320GB 7200 RPM can work with this notebook, I see no reason why a 500GB 7200RPM not work....

On what to buy, go with what Huffer has suggested...
