I am planning to replace the HDD of my Pavilion DV4139EA notebook as the OS (Win XP Home) got corrupted. Mine is a 2005 model with a 40 GB IDE (PATA) hard disk. How do I know if the MoBo and BIOS supports LBA48 so that I can upgrade to one of those 250 GB IDE hard disks? I can't download and run any of the available tools to identify the Mobo / BIOS now that my machine does not boot up

You have the Intel i915 chipset which does support 48 bit LBA so buy that big hard drive.

Great! Will pick up the new hard drive over the weekend, let's see how it goes.
