Re: HDX16 Quick Launch Button Issue

RKM_v3,

I posted a permanent fix for this problem a little ways back in this thread. There wont be any way to fix it via software or settings. You need to cover the exposed LIF connector and add foil tape shielding.

Good luck

Re: HDX16 Quick Launch Button Issue

Wow. I just read through this whole thread and I'm still scratching my head. My warranty went out a year ago, not that it helped anyway. I contacted them several times times about this problem when I was still under warranty, but I got the same advice as most here did... update BIOS and software, etc etc. I even did 2 complete reinstalls with the customer support people. None of it worked long term. So far it has only been my volume, bass, and treble buttons messing up, but a few days ago it spread to my wireless button, and I cannot ignore it like I can the volume. I am disappointed with HP and their inability to deal with this problem. It seems to be enough of an issue that it should be listed on the support for this model, but it's not. So from what I gather from the thread is that I need to take apart my computer and do surgery. :smileyindifferent:

Just noticed this:

I wonder if we can get any other answers from them?

Re: HDX16 Quick Launch Button Issue

Permanent solution:

1. Unscrew the screw that hold the speaker panel, which are located under the battery.

2. Remove the speaker panel.

3. Remove the plastic rim around the keyboard.

4. Unplug the ribbon cable connected to it.

5. Put everything back together. Leave the ribbon cable unplugged.

6. Do not buy an HP computer again.

PS. if your computer also shuts off randomly, may God show mercy on you.

Re: HDX16 Quick Launch Button Issue

I can't believe this is the only solution to the problem. I will continue to look for other options (although I'm currently on hold with HP for what's been 25+ minutes), but I will definitely follow step 6. I'm so dissapointed with HP on this one.

Re: HDX16 Quick Launch Button Issue

Dear Brian,

-am having the same problem can you please hel with any video to guide me or to support me ?
I was reading your post on this website about "how to fix this problem" but I didnt feel like I would make it.
-one more thing am facing another problem which is my HDD ERROR, it says that I need to back up my DATA (D) dist to avoid losing my files that saved on it, and when I do the backup it sends me "ERROR" message, and the mute botton on the touch pad is always red, once I was trying to fix it and I did the mute botton became normal "white LED light" and it came back the same problem.

*any chance to contact you to get more info?

Regards,

Yazan S. Essa

Re: HDX16 Quick Launch Button Issue

Hi I have the exact same problem where I can only use the screen of my laptop if a bend it to a certain angle. My warranty is already out the window so i am willing to repair it my self but i want to be sure if you were able to fix....if not might as well get a monitor on it and keep it half-closed. :/
