Recently, my new HP DM4 started freezing a lot (around once to twice a day).
Since I had a clean copy of windows 7 with a legit microsoft student key, I did a clean install of windows 7 professional 64bit version on my laptop. Then I went to the HP support and drivers website and downloaded all the drivers, including all the chipsets, bios updates, alps touchpad driver, etc. I skipped the useless ones like HP maintenance and "stardock desktop themes" and such.
Now, everything works perfectly...except for my touchpad. Though I already installed the ALPS drivers from HP, it still does not work. I have attached a screenshot of my device manager. As you can see, the touchpad is not under pointer devices, and there are two devices with problems, one of which is an unknown device ( i suspect this is the touchpad).
Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance
UPDATE*******
Guys I just searched up the unkown device description, and turns out it is the fingerprint reader, not the touchpad.
And the ethernet controller...meh, I can go on the internet just fine so I'll ignore it.

was there a indicator light on the touchpad? when you double tap on it, does it change color?

After calling HP, I found the solution.
Here's to do:
1. make sure your alps driver is installed
2. unplug everything from the laptop, including the power cable and the mouse etc etc.
3. take out the battery
4. hold down the power button for 40 seconds
5. put in the battery, plug in the power, start computer.
My touchpad started working by this point, magically. But as an extra precaution, the techie told me to do the following (optional):
1. Restart computer, spam f10 during startup.
2. Once you're in bios, choose "use default settings (or something like that, forgot exact words)".
There..problem solved! Thx for ur time everyone!

Glad it's working for you now, it must be a bios update that took place?
