HP Battery alert on g61 model laptop

I attempted to do a battery test like the HP website says but when I tried, it said "primary battery - failed".  I have no idea why it failed, I have no idea why my internal battery would have problems after only having this laptop for a year, and I have no idea what to do/what I should do.

Replace the battery with a new one. there is no requirement to use an HP original battery. A replacement battery is not terribly expensive.

Why would it fail?

1) Did you ever calibrate it?
2) Did you leave it plugged into the wall socket for extended periods of time without removing the battery?

Don't feel alone, unintentional improper battery use just happens.

Re: HP Battery alert on g61 model laptop

I left the battery plugged into the laptop all the time - I never had any idea, unfortunately, that it would cause problems.

If no one answers, I guess I'll make a new topic, but since I'm wondering if it's caused by this... well, lately my computer will shut off randomly and freeze up.  Because the only problem I was aware of was the internal battery, I assumed that was why.

Well, recently my friend tried to get me to download this program BatteryCare to check the temperature of my computer - it's usually around 95 c!  I've never had overheating problems before.  Does the internal battery cause overheating?  I've been thinking of purchasing a cooling fan, because even if that won't solve the internal battery problem, it will solve the overheating at least temporarily, that's what I would think anyways.

Can someone tell me if a cooling fan pad would at least temporarily extend the life of my computer - at least until I got an internal battery - or if that would mess anything up?  Thanks.
