HP DM3 *** My Speakers Crackle*** PLEASE HELP !!

My speakers crackle. Even with the volume turned down they still crackle. Can you please tell me how to fix this? My DM3 is 5 days old. Will I have to return it? or can this be fixed?

Hello,

 

Same problem here :-( I bought my dm3 this afternoon.

 

I tried installing a codec pack and use different media players, nothing changed.

 

If I don't find a solution tonight i'm going to return it tomorrow.

I had this problem on my DV3 when I upgraded to Wiindows 7 until I installed the proper drivers.  Be sure you're up to date on your driver software by using the HP Advisor gizmo, or checking manually.

I already checked the drivers and their up to date. The speakers still crackle !!! HP HELP !!!

Not sure what you all have for sound but mine is IDT. If you click on Preferences>General you will see a small notice under Advanced Power Settings stating you may hear popping and crackling sounds. You would think HP would fix this issue.

Just got off the phone with HP. 3 hours and 26 minutes later I have no resolution. She tried to install an updated driver which resulted in my DM3 to crash 4 times and go to blue screen. Than she wanted to reinstall all of windows 7 which I refused to allow. This is seriously **bleep**ed up. In the last month I have spent over 15 hours on the phone with HP trying to resolve issues with the DM3 and also my photosmart plus 209b (might I add they forgot to write a saving file feature into the software, each printer was shipped like this too)  Now I spent almost 1200 bucks on this new laptop and all this **bleep** is happening. I currently own 4 Hp desktops and 2 latops but im seriously starting to lose faith in HP. Dont they check their products before shipping them? And its not the techs fault either. those people in india are very smart and helpful. This is souly the fault of HP's design team. The funny thing is that the speakers crackling isnt even the major problem, the major problem is the sleep mode disabling the mouse once the DM3 is woken up. Im pretty sure Hp's gonna lose some money paying their techs to figure all this out for all the new customers that purchased the DM3. Seriously HP, take a step back and lets start living up to your name brand.

Hello jondeak,

 

I returned my dm3 this morning and got a new one. Unfortunately, the problem was still present. I don't know if I got unlucky or if it's just that other people just don't notice the crackle on theirs.

 

Nevertheless, I tried booting on a live CD of Ubuntu and listened to a few mp3s, and surprise: no crackle at all ! This means the problem doesn't come from the hardware but from a software, codec, driver or even Windows 7, so I won't return this one cause apart from this problem it's a great laptop.

 

I'll keep looking for a solution and let you know if I find one :-)

Thank you pata-poof.....Still no resolution by HP. this is spreading like wildfire, ive read all over the internet that people are having problems with the speakers and also the sleep mode freezing the mouse. I hope HP is aware of this and working on the problem. I really dont want to return my DM3....STILL WAITING FOR HELP HP ????????:robotmad:

I spent about 3 hours the other night working with an HP techncian trying to get the problem resolved. I updated the BIOS and chipset then uninstalled and re-installed the audio drivers and NOTHING WORKS!

 

Come on HP, figure this thing out! I love my dm3t and don't want to be forced to return it; it's a great laptop aside from the speaker and mouse freezing issue!!

SPENT ANOTHER 3 HOURS ON THE PHONE TODAY WITH A HP TECH (THAT TOTALS OVER 20 HOURS THAT IVE SPENT ON THE PHONE NOW TRYING TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS) AND SHE REFUSED TO ALLOW ME TO RETURN MY DM3 UNLESS I RE-INSTALL WINDOWS 7 BECAUSE SHE WAS CERTAIN THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. SO I DID AND 3 HOURS LATER THE SPEAKERS STILL CRACKLE AND THE MOUSE STILL FREEZES. IF THE HP TECH FORCES YOU TO RE-INSTALL YOU'RE OPERATING SYSTEM THEN REFUSE TO AND ASK FOR A SUPERVISOR. ITS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME. ALL THE DM3'S HAVE THESE 2 MAJOR ISSUE'S. AS OF NOW I AM CONVINCED THAT THERE IS NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. DON'T BOTHER CALLING BECAUSE THEY WILL DO NOTHING BUT WASTE YOUR TIME. THIS IS COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO SPENT 20 HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH HP. I WILL GIVE THEM ONE LAST CHANCE AND SHIP THEM MY DM3 FOR SERVICE AND IF IT RETURNS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM I AM RETURNING IT AND GETTING MY 1200.00 BUCKS BACK. THIS IS SERIOUSLY BULLSHHIT THAT THEY WOULD RELEASE A MAJOR LAPTOP LIKE THIS AND NOT MAKE SURE IT WORKS PROPERLY. I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED. 

 

P.S. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE HP TECHS IN THEIR SUPPORT CENTER IN INDIA. THEY HAVE BEEN EXTREAMLY HELPFUL AND I RATE THEIR SERVICE 5 STARS. THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE DESIGN TEAM THAT LAUNCHED THE NEW LINE OF DM3'S.
