HP DV5 1005TX Battery replacement.

I purchased my DV5 in New Zealand about 10 months ago. Recently (about a month ago) the battery has gone totaly caput (Max charge capacity 32% of normal) and the battery will last between 10-20 mins (sometimes as little as 1 sometimes as high as 40) it will sometimes just turn off at 60-90% battery and refuse to restart again untill plugged back in. Seeing as my laptop is still under it's 1 year warranty what I would like to is HP's policy on battery replacement. Would I be able to get a new battery under warranty? I've tried calling tech support once but they were not much use had an issuse with my fan and laptop charger (make making noises fan as if hitting something and charger odd crackling noises if it's used for more then 25-30 mins tend's to get very loud) so I've decided to ask here.

If anyone knows or knows somewhere I could find out please post thanks.

Re: HP DV5 1005TX Battery replacement.

call them back.  They will send you a new battery after a few minutes of running some tests, just do it, makes there job easier if  you just follow the steps that they tell you to do, and they may want to get your lap top to see whats up with the fan..  In that case if they cannot get it resolved over the phone they will send you a box to put it in and the shipping is free.

Battery capacity is not warranted...it can only be replaced if defective.  Update your BIOS, then try running the HP Battery Check utility to determine the battery status.

Re: HP DV5 1005TX Battery replacement.

i guess depending when you bought yours will depend on the new battery.  Me and my friend both have received a new battery from HP.  They might have been running a promotion at the time, but the geek squad told us to call HP and order our new replacement battery before the warranty runs out.

You don't need to install anything to run it...it's on the start menu under Help and Support -> Troubleshooting Tools -> HP Battery Check Utility.

Re: HP DV5 1005TX Battery replacement.

I've reinstalled my operating system and then I upgraded to windows seven so I don't have a single thing that came with the computer.
