Re: HP Elitebook 8730w ESATA Problem

If you can try the drive on another system, verify it works using e-sata.

Re: HP Elitebook 8730w ESATA Problem

Try this:

Open Disk Management (Control Panel->Computer Management->Disk Management) choose menu Action->Rescan Disks, then re-connect/turn on the eSATA drive. The drive should appear in the Disk Manager within a few seconds, if not try rescanning the drives again and unplug/re-plug the cable.

Re: HP Elitebook 8730w ESATA Problem

I just knew that the esata port on this laptop isn't a powered one. So the external drive needs a power supply in order to works. :smileysad:

Re: HP Elitebook 8730w ESATA Problem

I have the same laptop and I'm using an external eSATA drive right now with it - using the method I just mentioned above.

Ahh, misread - yes, sorry, you will need an external power supply for the drive itself.
