HP Envy 17-1050ea - Second hard drive size?

Hello

I've recently bought a refurbished HP Envy 17-1050ea and want to add a hard drive to the second drive bay. Online forums and information suggested that I required a 2.5" drive. So, I've bought a 1 TB drive and a suitable drive bay caddy, opened up my laptop and found that the drive is physically too big to fit: it looks like the bay is for a 1.8" drive.

Have I massively misunderstood something here?

Makes no sense, the Service Guide says you can use a 1 tb, but they don't make that size in anything smaller than 2.5"

Agreed. There are videos showing the fitting of 2nd drives on YouTube, and there are 3rd party drive bays mounts that are for 2.5" drives.

I'm at a loss (technically AND financially!) It's not just off by a millimetre or two, it's significantly smaller.

Okay, Mumbodog, it's time for me to be embarrassed... I rewatched a video online and I've overlooked that the hard drive fits underneath the ledge that's there. It was a tight fit due to some foam rubber buffering so it wasn't trivial, but not too arduous either. I've finally got it working and the drive's formatting now.

I'm sorry to have wasted your time over something that I should have checked more thoroughly.
