Ok, so I just picked up a used HP G50 from a local seller yesterday. I bought it, knowing that there were a few issues that I would have to address, most of which I have already resolved. I currently have it in pieces because the battery latch mechanism was broken, and I am currently waiting for my replacement one to arrive.
In the meantime, since I have easy access to the motherboard, I was wondering what I could do to upgrade the processor. It currently is running an Intel T3400 2.16ghz CPU. And I know the chipset is the Intel Q45 Express with the Intel 4500 onboard video card. From the specs I have found on the CPU (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=35583) it is running at 667mhz FSB. I have tried to research and see what the fastest chip I can run is, but I seem to be hitting a brick wall on anything definite. When I checked Intel's website, I see a desktop board with this same chipset can support up to a Quad core CPU with an 800mhz FSB, but nothing about the laptop variant of the chipset. I have an Intel T7700 2.40ghz cpu (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=29762) with an 800mhz FSB sitting here, that was pulled from a dead Gateway laptop. I wanted to get some input before just trying to shove this thing in there and frying something out. According to the specs on these two chips, both will fit in a PPGA478 socket.
Basically I just need to know if this laptop will support a 800mhz FSB mobile CPU, and if so, what is the max chip that I can get away with? Thanks so much for reading!

It is the HP G50-126NR. I just completed a BIOS update on it prior to tearing it down. It is now running version F.63 A. Thanks for the quick reply!

Thank you so much! Out of curiosity, are you aware of the differences between the following 2 CPU's?
Intel Core2 Duo P8600 2.40-GHz processor (3-MB L2 cache)
Intel Core2 Duo T7700 2.40-GHz processor (4-MB L2 cache)
And is there any reason that the T7700 wouldn't work in this laptop?

Ok, since I didn't get another response to my last post, I went ahead and just popped in the T7700 CPU into this G50, and low and behold it works perfectly. The BIOS and Windows 7 both detect it and it is running much faster now. Hope this info helps someone else. :-)
