Re: HP G60-535DX Notebook. Built in webcam. Humming noise?

I received my microphone.  It is USB, but I am NOT happy because it is a headset.  Using a headset for family video calls just isn't going to work.  Can you imagine grandpa and grandma passing a headset back and forth while they try to talk to their grandchildren?

I do appreciate the fact that I was listened to when I said the microphone had to be USB.  When I called my case manager to let her know the headset wasn't practical for what my family wanted to use it for, she said she was very sorry.  She said it was the only USB microphone she could find to send me.

I'm not using my G60.  As a matter of fact, my plan is to give it away.  I will buy a new laptop, and it will be from ANYBODY but HP.

Re: HP G60-535DX Notebook. Built in webcam. Humming noise?

It is just a small little circle of glass above the screen (it says webcam next to it - faint). Is that what you mean.

The built in mic does not work though.

You need to go to this page to request a mic and to be put on the list for them to notify you if they ever get a fix.

If you just bought this computer and you need a mic, I suggest you return it for something other than an HP G60 series, because none of those mics work.

Re: HP G60-535DX Notebook. Built in webcam. Humming noise?

I agree with lakeside.  If you are able to return your laptop for a refund, do it.  AND, don't get any G60 Series laptop.  All of them have internal microphones that do NOT work.  The external microphone jack doesn't work, either.  If you don't care about having a microphone (which I highly doubt if you're wanting to use the webcam), then lakeside's and my warnings won't matter.  However, I have a feeling you are itching to do a video call.  To do that, you need a new laptop.  Sorry.

Re: HP G60-535DX Notebook. Built in webcam. Humming noise?

You can download and install the latest audio driver using one of the following options.

    * The Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio Driver (version 4.98.60.50 A) is available with download and installation instructions at the following link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02032566&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=4041434#

The new driver does this:     keeps the volume at a constant level (external mic plugged into the external jack or just using the internal mic)

Before it used to just fall to zero on its own no matter what you did, so this is an improvement.

However, the mic still sounds bad if you are just using it alone still gives lousy quality - lots of background noise. I skyped someone tonight. To try to improve on the background static/hum, I plugged in the USB mic they'd finally sent. It also has background noise though not quite as bad. When I unplugged it to try just the internal mic again, the speakers went mostly off and I could not hear my friend at all until I plugged the USB mic back in.

No the driver is definitely not a cure all. And the USB mic is not that great either, plus it only has a one yr warrenty. But at least it folds flat to travel with a laptop.

Re: HP G60-535DX Notebook. Built in webcam. Humming noise?

Here is the new driver info with Link to Support page:

You may experience improved microphone quality if you install the latest Conexant audio driver SP47803 released on March 10th.   If the new driver doesn’t help, contact HP (1-800-hp-invent), or go to the product support page by visiting http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html > Enter your notebook product or model number > hit return > Click on the “Internal Microphone Performance Information” under the Alert section.  HP is offering an interim solution and will contact you when a permanent solution is available.

You can download and install the latest audio driver using one of the following options.

  • The Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio Driver (version 4.98.60.50 A) is available with download and installation instructions at the following link:

Re: HP G60-535DX Notebook. Built in webcam. Humming noise?

You will all laugh but I am a very late user of this notebook. I bought it on the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend of 2009 to use it when I traveled overseas, at home in the US I used my desktop. I never needed to use the built-in-web camera from my HP G-60 notebook. Only now I will need to but could not find where the built in camera was located. I did a search and I come across with this forum. This is very good information.

Was the mic problem resolved after downloading the Conexant HD Audio file indicated by the HP employee on 30 March 2010? I downloaded the file, however, I will not know where it works until I have tried skyping with someone and that will not happen before the 2011 Thanksgiving specials finish today! ha, ha.

If it did not work, what if I connect a new web camera to the notebook? Will it help? I doubt I will get a response by COB today but I will buy the webcamera anyway.
