HP G60 Fried Motherboard?

[ Edited ]

Hi,

My friend has a HP G60 with an AMD processor. He accidently connected the HDMI out port on the laptop to the HDMI out of an Xbox 360. Now it refuses to boot, the power button lights up orange and the screen stays blank. He got it checked out and apparently the motherboard is fried. Although I have never owned a laptop with HDMI, it sounds a bit unfeasable. I was wondering if anyone here has a different opinion on why this laptop appears to be bricked.

EDIT: This laptop IS out of warrenty.

Yes connecting a Video output to another Video output can fry the video, lucky it did not toast the x360 too.

You can try a hard reset, remove AC power, and the main battery, hold the power button down for 20 seconds, connect AC (no battery) and see if it comes back to life.

Re: HP G60 Fried Motherboard?

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Also, I guess fried video means getting a new motherboard if that fails (sorry for the noob question, I don't know much about this laptop)

Re: HP G60 Fried Motherboard?

Probably better to get a new Notebook than is is to repair that one.

Re: HP G60 Fried Motherboard?

What sort of price is a new motherboard? I'm only really interested beacause I am short of cash at the moment and am looking for a cheap backup to my aging G4 PowerBook. I've seen similar spec laptops at about £350, I assume a motherboard is cheaper?

Re: HP G60 Fried Motherboard?

They run from 250-400 USD, call HP and get a quote for your particular model.

You are better off putting the money onto a new Notebook.

Re: HP G60 Fried Motherboard?

Hi, mine is similar but if I keep pressing the powjer button, sometimes 80 times it will boot. Give that a go.
