HP G62 won't turn on

Hey,

so I bought a HP G62 a month back, and (except for the fact, that only one of the speakers are functioning) I have been more than satisfied with it. Just until today, when I got home, I woke it up from Sleeping Mode, and turned it off immediately. I was planning to have it turned on for 2 days straight, and I figured I remove the battery, as that is what I was told, when I bought it. After I made sure it turned off I removed the battery, and I plugged in the power supply, but surprise! :smileysad: It didn't start.

I didn't hesitate to start looking for a solution online, and other people seemed to have to same problem. Unfortunately for me, the "hold the power button for 15 seconds, and then plug it back in" method didn't work.

TL;DR: My fairly new laptop doesn't turn on for no apparent reason. I turned it off the way I'm supposed to, and when I wanted to turn it back on, nothing happened.

I can't take it back to the shop for another 2 days at least, so if there's anything I can try at home, please let me know.

Thanks,

TK

Re: HP G62 won't turn on

A'ight, I feel slightly idiotic, and confused right now.

For the third time, I was trying to make it work with moving the cable around, or by plugging everything out and back in, and guess what...

It works.

So anyways, sorry about the post above, and thanks to everyone who read it, and gave it some thought.

Re: HP G62 won't turn on

Hello,

I just bought the same laptop in Feb. out of the 5 months I have had it, it has been in the shop about 4 months. It will shut off and not turn back on. I just got it back once again today and after using it about 30 minutes it shut itself off and wont turn back on. The little light by the plug wont even come on to show it is plugged in. Has your computer worked w/o any problems since you got it back on? I am trying to see if anyone else has had the same issue as me.

Thank You,

M.B

Re: HP G62 won't turn on

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem, i've had my laptop since end of november last year and while we was on holiday in march this problem arose, the power supply was not supplying power to the unit or charging the battery, after returning home we went back to Comet who told us we needed to contact HP to get it sent away for the repair to be carried out, we did this and when it was returned a system board replacement had been carried out but it was still faulty.

At this point when plugged into a power source it managed to supply power to the laptop and charge the battery but only to around 40%, after a week or two before we had got arounf to returning it once again we had no power when it was plugged in so we took it to the shop to see if they would check it and they tried a charger they had in it and told us there does appear to be a problem with the unit, we'll send it back to HP as we was going to have difficulties on being in when it would be collected that week.

The Laptop came back and it stated unit in good working order, no repair carried out, at this point thinking the problem must either be our charger or battery that we believed we had to replace we couldn't make up our mind which to replace first as both are quite a cost if it isnt the problem so we did nothing for a while, then the other week i said i have had enough of this it is a £350 laptop gathering dust and will soon be running out of warranty so we went back to Comet whom said send it back to HP but we said what if the problem is the charger or the battery they are not covered and we are wasting our time so they took our battery and charger and plugged them into another HP laptop there in the shop and they told us to come back in a couple of hours to see what had happened and guess what, yes the charger had worked fine and our battery was at 100% so they told us to send it back to HP again. We received the laptop back a couple of days ago, again no fault found and not fixed so its on its travels back to HP today.

However i decided after the same driver was picking it up again and told me there are a lot of us it was time to get in touch with trading standards, the drivers actual words was it like they are just sending them back unrepaired. this prompted me to get in touch with trading standards so i did a search and i found a phone number for some consumer advice, i rang them and it seems Comet have been refferring us to make a claim under the manufacturers warranty and not under our statutory rights which is against the retailler (themselves) within six months such a claim can be repaired or replaced but you have more rights under the stautory rights and it seems for 4 months that i have been sending it back to HP if comet want to be funny now as we have had it 9 months say we have made no claim for repair or replacement under the statutory rights which is against the retailler and not the manufacturer so should our laptop come back unfixed again we may need to prove there is a manufacturer fault or inherent defect which requires us to pay if Comet don't automatically accept there is a problem which entitles us to claim under our statutory rights.

This has compelled me to come on here and write this, if you have owned this laptop for less than 6 months when your problems have arisen DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH HP REPAIR CENTRES (THEY ARE CRAP) get it back to where you purchased it, press for a replacement not a repair, (I'LL NEVER TRUST A HP PRODUCT AGAIN) and dont be fobbed off by being reffered back to HP under the warranty again.

Re: HP G62 won't turn on

Recently my HP G62 laptop suddenly stopped working - couldn't get it to turn on.  Tried hard reset etc. but it never powered up.  With help of manual for this laptop, I took it apart until I saw the motherboard.  Then I found a small metal screw on a corner of the board I suspect was touching some pins.  Removed that screw and put everything back together and the laptop works fine ever since.

I have never opened the laptop before and it seems the screw was dropped in at the factory.  Never dropped the laptop, the screw looks brand new and didn't see any empty holes where it can fit.

Re: HP G62 won't turn on

After a contact with the local HP service (Greece) i did again a hard reset and the laptop worked as normal and about 30 minutes after working well shuted down unexpectedly and i started it again right after and worked well. The issue now is that when i turned it off about an hour ago and tried to turn it on 10 minutes ago,on the first try it did the same thing again (power ligth opens, after 10 secs goes out without anything starting). With the second try the power light and the Wireless light (this time) opened and closed without anything started. On the third try the laptop started normally and running.Any suggestions what it might be,because i am not sure it is going to work normally without that issue in the near future.

Thank you for any advice
