HP Laptop running too hot and making high pitch noise.

Hello,

Model Number: Pavilion DV5

AMD X 2 64 Processor

Windows Vista

My problem is a heat issue.  I looked up the chip set, and its rated to max around around 71 degrees celsius.  My laptop has been running at 90 - 100 Degrees Celsius.  I have tried raising to backto permit airflow.  I also run in power saver mode, since if I use any other one it gets over 95 degrees.

Also, recently it has begun making a very high pitch electronic noise, one that makes it unbearable to use.

It is still under warranty.  I have checked the heat on other identical laptops, and none of them run as hot as mine.  Is this an issue that needs fixing?

Yep, return it. CPU might be cooked. If not, it soon will be.

(If this post repeats ignore it. Minor connectivity glitch.)

That very high pitch electronic noise sounds like a fan not working?

Re: HP Laptop running too hot and making high pitch noise.

Take the fan cover off, get a high pressure air hose, I used about 80psi, and blow into vents were the air is supposed to come out.

I did this and got lots of chunks of dust out, and my zd7188 runs very quite now. The first time i did it I found one fan wasnt even plugged in.

(this was after i sent it in to have the power connector replaced.)

Anyway the fans pick up a lot of dust and try to shove it through those tiny fins next to them.

Re: HP Laptop running too hot and making high pitch noise.

Mine has been running hot-between 85 and 92 degrees celcius.  It has been in for repair 4 times.  The heatsink replaced 3 times; this last repair they replaced the CPU and a memory module.  It came back running just as hot.  I spoke with escalation again and I am getting the same response that it's normal for the laptop to run that hot.  I don't understand if it's normal why have they tried to fix it 4 times.

I have tried to contact AMD to find out what they think but because they supply to hp they won't give me the specs on my processor.  They did say if it runs too hot it will gradually breakdown my processor.  I think that is why it was replaced.

All my research and discussions with professionals say it is too hot but hp says its fine.  I am really disappointed with hp.  I have really liked their products up until now.  Good luck with your issue-I wouldn't expect a whole lot from hp on the matter.
