HP Mini 1000 - Solid State HD Constantly Thrashing - Slowing System Down

Well I finally went ahead and decided to get a replacement SSD to address the constant-thrashing problem on my 1030NR, based on what I'd read here, and elsewhere. I found the Super Talent FEM32GF13M 32GB SSD on Amazon, with a review from someone who had put this into a 1030NR.  It was an easy replacement, and for the 1st couple of times after I'd booted I could see that the performance was quite a bit better. However, after a few days, my wife starts complaining that it's still slow, and sure enough, we're still encountering these ridiculously long periods where the HDD light is just SOLID... nothing running besides Firefox .... no processes showing much CPU utilization at all. This even after I uninstalled the AV software.  At this point, it seems like the machine is just as bad as it was with the stock 16MB drive the thing came with, but now down I'm $120. Sigh.

I heard people claiming they have been able to remove the SSD USB drive from in the hp mini 1030R and replaced it with up to 120gb (which was taken from an old ipod)

the HD aparrently  5mm high and it has to fit in the 2.5" area where the caddy of the SSD is.

The question would be, is this true and if it is, who can walk through the steps on doing it?
