HP Mini 110 3100 Replace Hard Drive

Hello all,

The hard drive in my HP Mini 110 3100CA has died. Well, dieing anyway. There is an intermittent squeal coming from it. I did the Hard Drive Test via HP's diagnostics menu and it says the drive failed SHRT DST (passed SMART test though).

I am looking to replace the hard drive. I found the service manual and understand that the keyboard connector is fragile. I also found this post:

Before I purchase a new hard drive, could someone help answer a few questions:

1. I understand that the mini supports a standard 2.5" SATA. Does it matter if the drive is SATA 1.5 Gbps or 3.0 Gbps?

2. The service manual has replacement parts numbers for 5400 RPM drives, would 7200 RPM drives work as well? I cannot remember if that is something that needs "support" or is generally not found in netbooks (power reqs, etc.).

3. This is the hard drive I am considering. Is it compatible? Perhaps there is something I overlooked?

Hi,

#1, go for SATA 3Gb/s, in theory double the speed.

#2, you can use 7200RPM. Please watch these videos:
