HP Pavilion DV73020SA Laptop Wont Boot, how can I trouble shoot the power issues?

[ Edited ]

Hi...  First time posting here so I hope this is in the relevant section..

I have a HP Pavilion DV7-3020SA Entertainment Notebook PC

s/n {Removed for privacy}

p/n VL110EA#ABU

Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit Version

The laptop [2yr Old] has had only the normal HP and windows 7 updates and was working perfectly prior to its last shut down [2 days ago]. The problem is as follows :

When the power on button is pressed. All the lights flash once. Fan starts then the machine dies.

I have tried to start the laptop with/without the battery connected but the result is the same. I am aware that these machines have overheating problems & have been careful to avoid this by ensuring the laptop is always well ventilated. I have had no previous problems.

It takes about 2 sec for the shut down process to complete, without ever getting to the windows logo or offering a chance to access Bios. I believe it is a hardware issue.

I have used a multimeter to determine if the HP power adapter has failed. It appears to be working correctly at 19.5 volt. I have removed the hard drive and checked that its still viable. it appears to be working fine. I am a fairly competent user and comfortable taking the machine apart if that is required. Any help would be appreciated. Thnx

I would try another AC adapter before giving up on it.

Hi .. Guess your right that would be an obvious move .. Will take it to a local store an get that checked today. not expecting much of a result tho as the multimeter I used did seem to suggest the power output from the adapter was correct.. but you never know ?

Re: HP Pavilion DV73020SA Laptop Wont Boot Issue

Power output can drop when it is under a load like charging or when the notbook is booted up and running, or both.

@mumbodog

Thanks for the help ... after having the computer and the power adapter examined by a local techs it appears that it has a failure on the motherboard,,,

I am pretty sure that the diagnosis is correct & the laptop is dead & only expensive replacement of parts will bring it back to life... I am not going to invest further time or money on this machine.

I now join the ranks of disappointed HP customers & will never purchase another product from this company.. Or recommend that anyone else does...

I gave the Kudos salute to you as yours was the only reply that I recieved .. Thanks again for the time out..
