HP Pavilion ZD7000 - Motherboard or Video upgrade?

[ Edited ]

Hello,

I am writing here today since I was wondering on how I could get a different GPU for my ZD7000. As of now, the video is really poor. It is slow, and I can't, nor won't be able to get Microsoft Aero running. I am mainly trying to get Aero working and get this computer upto gaming speed. I'd be willing to update to the best GPU available for the system, but I do not know how to upgrade it or where to get parts... or where to bring it is nessecary.

Please note, there is no problem with the machine... but I just think it's time for a upgrade. I will list my system specs below...

HP Pavilion ZD7000 CTO Notebook PC

nVidia GeForce 4 448 Go with 64MB RAM

512 System RAM

Windows Vista Home Premium (Not Aero Enabled)

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.66GHz

(Please, do not tell me to downgrade operating systems. I won't since I am quite content with Vista. Thank's for your understanding) :smileyhappy:

The hardware is not upgradeable. "In the day" a GeForce 440 Go was pretty cool on a laptop but these days are past. That is an XP machine and not really designed for Vista but even with XP you would only be able to manage very light gaming like stuff from 2000 era. If you could get Aero running (hypothetically) with 512 of RAM you would be crawling. You are probably already slower than molasses in January. 2 gigs is bare minimum for Vista. Sell it to somebody with more modest needs and buy a new laptop.

Re: HP Pavilion ZD7000 - Motherboard or Video upgrade?

yeah..  I cant seem to find a way to upgrade my zd7000 video card..

However,  I've been running Win 7 Ultimate RC (Evaluation copy)

and it seems to be doing ok.

the only suggishness I see is when I have multiple IE or Firefox windows open,

surfing the web may take a few seconds longer than XP.

.

HOWEVER..  when I was pulling a movie off my Desktop HD

so I could view it on my HP Pav Laptop.. it was GREAT..

No glitches What-So-Ever !!

compared to XP I always had to load the movie on my Laptop to

avoid glitches..

Note :  All  aero was automatically disabled/ not installed on

my 7 yr old laptop/ desktop...

---  Any suggestions on where I can purchas win7 cheaper,

or Cheap Vista with free win7 upgrade ????

Double note:  My cd7000 runs PERFECT and compared to my

friends new laptops, I believe faster than most new computers

today for surfing & normal home office use..

Triple note:  I have cat6 running from my modem > Router > CPU

& also to my Living Room Laptop... increase my hardwire speed

by 400 kbps on a 3,000 service, cat5 wiring.

Omni-directional booster antenna on my router with above cat6

increased my wireless over 500kbps...  i can now surf PERFECTLY

on my back porch, brick wall, no problems at all..

My cousins in nursing school park in my front driveway to

do their homework off my internet..
