HP Pavilion dm4 Brief Beep Noise

Hi,

I bought the aforementioned laptop in September 2010 and it worked fine until mid Jan 2011 when it started making a brief annoying beep sound every now and then; from very rare to very intensinve. Does anyone know what may the cause be and how to fix it?

Please identify your notebook with more than the series name.

Look at the barcoded sticker on the base of your notebook. Post everything on the sticker except the serial number.

Hi

When do you get the beep sound -- when you start the machine or you hear the beep when the OS is already started.

If you hear a beep when the machine is up an running , could be a sign of a faulty battery ( For testing purpose - run the machine without the battery installed , straight from the Ac adapter and see if you hear any beeps)

If the beep sound s when you start the machine , you need to be more specific , as to how many beeps ( long beeps , short beeps , 1 or 2 beeps etc)

Will run it without battery and see how it works. Although I have never heard the noise before the OP loaded. The noise is very brief it lasts a second at most and sometimes it is just one brief bleep whereas some other times it may be repeating continously with about 5 to 10 brief beeps.

I do suggest that you update your BIOS to the current version. There have been two updates since the initial BIOS version.

I did update the BIOS as suggested but the bleeping noise remained. It becomes quite annoying as it repeats every about 5 seconds and blips briefly either once or a few times immediately one after another.

Are there any other possible causes for that?

Was there a cause found ?

I just bought a DM4 1265dx at Best Buy last week and heard one beep this past weekend and one today. It is a high pitched single beep lasting for a few seconds. I ran the HP battery test and said was fine. I rebooted and ran the memory test from the Bios...also fine.

Hi, any update on this topic? I have exact same problem on my dm4, started around 8 months after i bought it in January 2010. Lately it have become very intense!
