Re: HP Pavilion dv7-1240us volume control touch sensitive not working

If the mute, volume controls and play buttons stop working, I can verify that following proceedure will rectify the situation:

1. Turn Off Laptop

2. Remove AC cord and remove battery

3. hold power button down for 30 seconds

4 Reload battery, attach AC cord, turn on laptop, after boot, controls  should work again.

Mine is doing this now.  Battery removal and reboot works but only until the next day then back to square one.  I've had this laptop two years and it's been fine, now I'm frustrated and ready to buy a Mac before I spend more time and moneyh on this one.  LIfe's just too short for this nonsens.

These solutions have never worked...

Time to drop this thing in the trash and get a laptop that works...

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-1240us volume control touch sensitive not working

I am a technician and the same has happened to me. I did what I was explained to do by removing the battery, etc but that trick only worked once for my lappy which is a model DV7-3157CA. I recently had time to open it up and see what exactly was my problem after it was not working correctly for the past 5 months. I removed the 4 screws in the battery compartment and the 2 screws on each corner of the case next to the battery compartment. Then I pryed the power, volume panel out being careful of the 2 ribbon cables connecting it to the MB. i then removed the 4 chrome colored screws at the top of the keyboard and the 3 screws under the lappy that also hold the keyboard in place. One is hidden in the HD compartment and 2 in the RAM compartment. you will notice a tiny keyboard symbol next to those 3 hidden screws. I then carefully removed the 2 ribbon cables from the MB by holding the extra plastic type handle on the cable and gently pulled them out. I tested the connection from the open end of the ribbon cable that is connected to the middle of the panel. Using my tester i applied one test probe to the open end of the ribon cable and the other test lead to the surface mount connecter on the board and found a few open circuits. This clearly ment the ribbon cable was either broken or not inserted completely. Well, the cable was good... As I went to remove it from the connector it was actually just hanging out so it made intermittent connections to the panel board. HP applied some glut to hold the cable in place but over time it seemed to have pulled on the cable, I can only assume due to heating and cold. i had the exact same issue with a sony camera last year. I reinstalled the cable properly in the connector and reconnected the other ends in to the MB. I reset the lappy using the instructions we were told to do, etc and WOW it's been working fine to date. I'm sure most of you have the same problem if the touch stopped working... Worth a try to look at yourself as it's pretty easy to remove the panel. Have a great day !! Hope this info help as many as posible and save yourself a large bill from a technician or HP.

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-1240us volume control touch sensitive not working

Wish I could say it worked.  It seemed like the ribbons needed to be reseated, so I did that, and then installed the driver software, to no avail.

Had my hopes up.  Still no joy.  HP droped the ball on this 2 year old issue that impacted several models.

I learned my lesson...never will buy another HP device again.

Did you do the reset thing after. the 1st time I did the reset after fixing the ribbon cable it didn't work. i then took my time and reset it again and it came back to normal. Hope you get it going. every laptop company has inherent problems. i'v tried them all !! I never had to reintall any drivers

Wow, that's like, "look East, spit, sing the National Anthem, kick your computer, and it should work". Fixed my problem too. Thanks!
