My laptop, HP Pavilion ze4800, has 2 X 256Mb RAM.
I would like to increase the memory to 1Gb.
Is it possible to replace the existing memory to get to 1Gb ?
If so, could you tell me the item code, where to buy & cost.

You need DDR333 laptop memory, which you can buy here:
You can get the memory used on eBay much cheaper and you should be OK as long as you buy from a reputable seller.
Yes, the max for your machine is 1 gig or 2 x 512 mb modules.
Don't buy from HP. I like HP but their replacement parts are sky high since they are not a parts store and have to incur high costs to keep a wide inventory of stuff that does not move very quickly.
