HP Pavilion

I just bought a HP Pavilion dv6 1210sa and I'm planning on upgrading the RAM. However I was wondering what ram sticks I would need to buy in terms of the maxiumum GB supported per stcik, MHz etc. A link to a reccomended ram stick would be nice too. Price isn't so much a problem but not looking to pay a ridiculous ammount for a bit of ram.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

See the link below for th various upgrade options, although the first one listed is one you are probably after, it is a little expensive.

Re: HP Pavilion

Thanks DPK

I currently have my laptop on a stand with a few things plugged in so don't really want to flip it over. But it came with 2GB RAM, 250GB harddrive, AMD Athlon x2

Re: HP Pavilion

DDR2 is still more expensive than DDR3. 4 gigs would probably do you just fine and would be a lot cheaper.

Re: HP Pavilion

Also have a nother question. The laptop was second hand. Everything's working fine, impressed with the laptop(GF also loves the webcam features with all the crazy stuff you can do).

However it takes 3-4 button presses of the power button to power up. The laptop will power up between 3-6 seconds and turn off but the screen stays black. Eventually it will turn on and the screen will still be black for the short duration it's supposed to be, however you can see the back lights come on and that's when I know it will power up properly. Anyone know any solutions?

Re: HP Pavilion

This is not good. The most common source of this problem is a video chip on the motherboard that is dying. They disconnect from the motherboard is the simple way to describe it. The laptop will boot intermitently for a while then not at all. The other possibility is a bad stick of memory but I doubt that is it.

Re: HP Pavilion

Thanks Huffer. What would you reccomend as a cause of action to get it fixed? Hoping I won't have to pay too much for someone to fix it. Desktop's I can usually fix but laptops seem to be a whole different story! A friend of mine suggested it may be the motherboard or processor.

Re: HP Pavilion

There are services on eBay that do a good job repairing motherboards. If you can remove the motherboard yourself the price of the repair is very low like maybe $60-70. If you have to send in the whole laptop it can be $150 or more because of the extra labor.

That is an example there are dozens more but I would find one with high feedback who uses high-tech equipment. Some of them even have phone numbers you can call to talk to them before you send it in.
