Re: HP Pavilion DV6000 Hard drive upgrade

All,

Thanks for all the comments - I have a Dv6646 machine - I already have 4GB of SODRAM and purchased the Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 7200 RPM SATA drive WD3200BEKT because of the reviews (7200 RPM that uses the power of a 5400 RPM drive).  Other posts on this site supported the WD product choice.

I will also perform a custom install of the Win 7 HP 64-bit OS and will report back with any heat issues or boot up concerns.  I do not believe there will be any issues, but you never know.

BTW: There is a special SATA adapter that HP uses on certain series notebooks that allow a standard SATA drive to press down onto the mobo. Just be mindful of this when upgrading. One can reuse the connector/adapter that comes with the original drive; it just slides off.

Re: HP Pavillion DV6000 Hard drive upgrade

I noticed that Wester Digital HD3200BEKT is a "Bare Drive", it appears to not have a case like what is in my laptop now. Will this plug in as is, or would I have to put it in some type of case?

You should only need to slide the plastic adapter off the pins of the old hdd to use on the new one and it will plug right in.

Re: HP Pavilion DV6000 Hard drive upgrade

All really good information, but I noticed that the 7200 (WD) had less cache then the 5400 (WD)

I'll be using Cubase for audio recording and the 7200 is a good idea but the 5400 has more cache and is made for A/V

Decisions!!!

Thanks for the information

Any more suggestions would be great

Thanks

T

The Seagate Momentus 750GB 7200RPM 2.5" 9.5mm height HDD (model # ST9750420AS) has a 16MB cache, same as the 500GB WD 5400RPM.  I recently installed one in my wife's dv9700 notebook.
