HP Pavillion DV9000 Totally Dead [ Edited ]

Can anybody please help me with my Power problem.  ?

I have a HP Pavillion DV9000 Laptop that has had very little usage .

I have had it from new and it is about 3 years old.

I have no functionality what so ever from it.

The only LED that it displays is the Blue circular light which surrounds the power input socket.

I have no other LED's at all, including the lights above the keyboard or on the front.

I turned my machine on and without me doing anything it decided to die and has not responded since.

I have bought a new external power adapter but that did not help.

I am desperate to get this machine working again.

I am annoyed because it only lasted me such a short time.

and cost me over £1000.

Please assist if you can.

Try a hard reset:

Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)
press the power button

Hi Erico, thanks for answering , however I have tried this many times and no success Im afraid.

It seems that power is getting to the Laptop , because the Blue light around the input socket is illuminated.

but this is all I get absolutely nothing else.

There is still the very real possibility that the power jack is  not delivering power to the battery and the notebook because of internal failure or cold solder joints.

Just because you see the blue ring lit does not mean much. There are four pins soldered to the motherboard and two of them supply power to the led the lights the blue ring.

The question  is whether or not the power adapter is charging the battery or powering the notebook without the battery installed. 

Please identify your notebook/pc with more than the series number. Look at the base/rear/side of the notebook/pc at the barcoded sticker. Post items numbered 1 and 2 on the following image.

Post the installed operating system version ( and whether it is 32 or 64-bit)

With the identifying information I can research the issue.  I will let you know if your notebook has the solder type power jack or the easy fix plug in connector type.

If it is the connector type it looks like this. A laptop shop can replace it for you. It is not a very expensive part.

I bought the spare part that you posted and I took the Laptop partly apart.

I too thought this would be easy to swap out.

However the part they sent me was not the same as the one in my machine.

I thought I could just fit it in and screw it into position.

alas I could not.

I gather from this that mine must need soldering.

Does this sound familiair to you ?

Yes. Some power jacks are plug ins and others require soldering skills.
Does the jack part look identical to what is in the notebook?

I usually end up with the solder type. For me it is a simple job but that is not the case for everybody.

I got the part from the Internet, I googled my Laptop name and cross referenced it for the part I was looking for and it took me to a site , that sold these parts.

It did not offer me a choice though, so I naturally thought there was only one type.

Unfortunately I was wrong and I now have a part that is no use to me.

The new part that I got of a supplier on the internet is definately not the same as the one in my Laptop.

I tried refitting it and discovered that it wasn't the same fitting at the input end.

I didn't even try getting to the Mother Board as their was no point.

I asked for the identification information to try to prevent that. You can still identify your notebook and let me find the correct part.

The Part Number for my HP Pavillion DV9000 is RW755EA #ABU

And it is a Model DV9000

I think my Operating  System is Windows 7,  64 Bit.
