I have two problems
- Battery is showing 100% but as soon as I remove the power supply the laptop crashes - help
- The laptop is very warm and there is a constant noise of a fan which is trying to cool the whole thing down - is this normal with this machine, or does it sound like it needs repair.
Help please

Check the battery health by downloading this software:
http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/batte
If it doesn't return an error there may be something else going on, consider having it serviced if it is under warranty, the warranty can be checked here:

As for the fan,
The fan sucks in air from the bottom and blows it out the side to help keep the processor cool. The fan will also suck in dust, hair, debris, etc. The heat sink with catch the larger particles and over time they will layer up and completely block air flow. This is bad, and the fan will work harder to compensate. I suggest blowing out the fan bottom and side with compressed air. If the laptop is under warranty, have a service center open up the laptop and remove and clean the fan. If it is not under warranty and you feel comfortable doing it, look up the laptop schematics and take out the keyboard and keyboard bezel and remove and clean the fan and heatsink, you can also apply a fresh layer of thermal grease to the processor since you have already taken it apart.
If this solves your problem and you like my answer, please give me Kudos and select Problem Solved, thanks!

Thank you so much for the prompt reply - I just didn't expect that. The laptop is unfortunately 1 month out of warranty and their service centre wants £ 270 to just look at it. Do you know anyone else who would consider looking at it a little more cost effectively. I am based near Bedford. I am happy to pay a reasonable amount but not that much.
Best regards,
Gary
