HP dm4 laptop autoshutdown on overheating error?

After much research I bought myself a dm4 HP laptop.  Its about 2 months old, and recently everytime I leave it siting and go back to use it, it will go out of hibernation for a second, then immediatelly shutdown/restart.  Upon restart, it says the computer automatically went into hiberation/shutdown due to overheating(even though everything seems nice and cool).  Its happened 3 or 4 times in the last 2 days, always on coming back to the comp, not during use.

Anybody else having this problem?  Do I need to send this back to HP to be fixed?  Thanks

Re: HP dm4 laptop autoshutdown on overheating error?

Yes, I do have the same problem with the dm4 overheating. I have talked to HP about this and even had it repaired. But the only thing that the did was UPDATE THE BIOS! now i still feel the computer heating up and when I bring this to the Philippines, I'm very sure that it will shutdown again like it did the last time. HP is just buying time and giving crap until my warranty expires. I belive that this can be one of those faulty made computers where they miss calculated the amount of heatsink needed. Just like some other models that they have recalled in the pass.

I hope that you never experience what I have in the past with this laptop. My experience was so horrible that i almost threw my laptop off the window. I have 3 HP laptops and I'M NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER ANYMORE! 2 LAPTOPS ARE DOWN NOW!

Re: HP dm4 laptop autoshutdown on overheating error?

I have  had the same problem for about a month.  I have  a G72.  Now the system will shut down in the middle of a program, with the overheat error screen.  I let it sit for 5 minutes to cool down the restart it.  This happens at least once a week.   It occurs whether I have it on my lap, on the desktop, or on one of the lapbudys.

I have found that if I leave the battery out, when running on electricity, I don't have the problem.  The computer stays a lot cooler but then I have to put the battery back in when I can't work plugged in.
