HP dv9000 notebook memory quetions

I was looking to upgrade the memory for my HP Pavilion Entertainment dv9000 notebook.

Documentation indicates 2gb max memory and that it has 2 memory slots.

Memory is DDR2 PC-53000 667mhz.

My question is can it take a single 2gb memory module, or do I have to put in 2 - 1gb memory modules?

Re: HP dv9000 notebook memory quetions

To get the best performance, you should install a matched set of 2 1Gb RAM modules.

It *may* work with one 2GB module, but performance would be negatively affected by having only one module installed.

Re: HP dv9000 notebook memory quetions

This link will tell you exactly what options you have for memory upgarde, and will show you the exact memory modules you need.  Crucial brand memory is some of the best around in my opinion.

click the link and then on the 3rd step choose your exact model number. I really is easy as 1,2 ,3 with this link.

Hope it helps!! Let us know.

Re: HP dv9000 notebook memory quetions

I was told I have a max of 2gb RAM: (two) 1gb memory cards.  My question is: can I get (two) 2gb memory cards, and increase the RAM?  What would happen?  I do not want to get the two 2gb cards and then find out they don't work.

Re: HP dv9000 notebook memory quetions

If your motherboard only supports 2GB, then putting 2 2GB modules in will result in problems.

First, if you are running a 32 bit OS, it will only be able to access a little over 3GB.

Next, nearly every application/program available today is written to use only 2GB of RAM.

Going from 1GB to 2 GB of RAM will yield a significant performance increase.

Going form 2 GB to 4GB of RAM will result in a much, much smaller perfromance increase.

If your motherboard supports on 2GB of RAM, then install *ONLY* 2GB.

Re: HP dv9000 notebook memory quetions

thanks NoNo you are a "BAD DOG"

I have a Pavillion dv9607 32-bit Vista Home Prem.  I currently have 1gig RAM w/2each  500mb modules.  With what you said I'll look into buying 2ea 1gig mods rather than 2ea 2gigs

Thanks Chillz

Re: HP dv9000 notebook memory quetions

I was wanting to add memory to my hp pavilion dv9000.  When I called HP, I was told that my memory could only be upgraded to 1024MB.  I'm at 958MB right now.  Is there a reason why I wouldn't be able to go up to two gigs of ram?  Could this woman I had spoken to be incorrect?  I would be pleased as punch to be told that I could upgrade to 2 gigs.

Re: HP dv9000 notebook memory quetions

Despite HP's published information and technical advice stating the dv9000 is limited to a maximum of 2GB, I learned this is simply incorrect.  I own a dv9231ca (Vista hp upgraded to W7 Ultimate) and a dv9774ca (Vista hp).  The dv9231ca came with 2GB and the dv9774ca came with 3GB.  The dv9231ca 2GB Windows 7 machine was virtually unusable due to inadequate memory.  Rather than biting the bullet and buying a new laptop, I swapped the memory between machines and found the dv9231ca Windows 7 worked fine with 3GB.  The Vista machine is fine with 2GB.
