Hi,
From what you describe, it sounds very much like a Hardware failure. As you have just bought the notebook, I would strongly recommend that you return it to the retailer you purchased it from and get the notebook replaced.

Hi,
It's impossible to say exactly what the fault is until the unit has been examined, however another option would be to contact HP and arrange to have the notebook repaired under warranty - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
Regards,
DP-K

I get varied messages like system doesn't have hard disc start up. Load bootable disc.
I tried making a bootable disc because one didn't come with the unit, but was mostly unsuccessful. The disc I made works some times and sometimes not.
The unit worked good for about 9 mos and has been screwed up since then i bought the unit from Best Buy December 2011.

Problem isn't solved as stated - it still exists. It usually takes 5 minutes or longer and sometimes loads and sometimes doesn't.
