Are you hearing the sound over the laptop's speakers?

Re: Hard Disk Noise

What do you mean "it was not partitioned"?

I have never heard of an HP laptop(notebook)  that could be purchased as barebones (without an OS).

AFAIK all HP laptops include operating systems and that means they are partitioned

They also come with a recovery partition D:.

I take it you did a clean install of an operating system.

Re: Hard Disk Noise

HI,

OK. go to device manager and expand the Disk drive section. That will show information on your hard drive. I am interested in seeing which manufacturer made your drive. You can download and use a S.M.A.R.T hard disk utility to find out whether you hard disk is healthy or not.  It is normal to hear  a slight noise from a hard disk as it is accessing or writing data. It is not normal to hear loud clicks or buzzing. If the SMART utility says your drive is ok then there is no problem.  Please post the name of the drive(the full alphanumeric designator)here.

erico
