Hard Drive not Detected

please help i was on my laptop and it froze making a bad noise and no its not detecting my harddrive

Hi,

It sounds like your Hard Drive may have failed, but try the following.

Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

Thanks for repying fast i tried the following solutions you gave me but it didnt help it is not detecting my Harddrive any other slolutions

Hi,

I would say that the most likely solution is simply to replace the Hard Drive.  If your notebook is under warranty, contact HP to have this replaced.

If you're out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing this yourself ( it's a straight forward process ), please post back with the full Model No. and Part No. of your notebook.

I have a coworkers laptop, who's HDD needs replacing.  The laptop is a Compaq CQ62.  I've ordered a new HDD, but now I'm concerned that HP has some block in the bios that only recognizes certain hdds.  Am I ok with a generic HDD, or do I need something specific for this laptop?

I have a Presario CQ57. My hard drive is not found. I was wondering what new hard drive would be best? I can post my Model numbers if needed
