Re: Help! DV2000 not starting up.

My dv6700 is having pretty much all the same problems, including the fact that it's not on their special list so they won't repair it.

I can't really add too much other than say I'm feeling your pain as well. Though I would like to note a section from the FAQ on the page regarding this error:

  • I am experiencing one of the symptoms, but my product number is not listed. Is there any possibility that my notebook PC has the same issue?
To date, the only products affected are listed in Step 1 of this document. If you continue to experience symptoms with your notebook PC please contact your HP in country support center.

That's gotta mean something, b/c contact them for what?

Re: Help! DV2000 not starting up.

My family has 3 of these machines dv2315nr - bought in june or july of 06.  Never would I have expected that one would completely die and the others be likely soon to stop functioning in less than two years. Each of these machines has been back for repair and now the one has had a hard drive failure, which is not covered under the normal or extended waranty. I could have HP replace the drive for a fee, but given the track record of this machine, it doesn't make any sense for me to repair it.

It is just a matter of time that the others fail.  They run extremely hot, which I believe contributes to the failure of components.  There clearly is a problem with the design or manufacturing of these machines. Bad for a company to not repair or replace these machines. Obviously from this thread this is an on-going problem.  I will never purchase another HP nor will I recommend one to my friends and colleague... Bad for HP as I am a technology purchaser and influencer in my community.  I would think a company would stand behind its products.

Re: Help! DV2000 not starting up.

We bought a DV2308TX less than 2yrs ago and it seems to be having the same problems as experienced by many in this forum.

It ran hot, hung and now the screen is blank/flickering.

I have tried contacting them - only to be passed around to different Indian speaking departments

I seem to have been left on hold for the past 3 days and no one wants to help:smileymad:

I will definitely not be buying their products again.

Prehaps they should spend more on development and less on marketing and fancy ads.

My last laptop was a Toshiba - brilliant and never gave me any trouble.

I am going to ditch this piece of HP junk in the bin

..move on and put it down to bad luck for picking such a lemon.:smileysad:

Re: Help! DV2000 not starting up.

oh no!  i can't believe how many victims of a poor product there are.  I have a dv2000 myself,  and the warranty just expired 5months ago.

why does HP not repair this "Hardware issue" for all the defective models? the syptoms are the same,  the models are the same.  In our family

alone three of us are victims to this "hardware issue"  I'm the latest.  Motherboards should last more than One and a half years shouldn't it!

Re: Help! DV2000 not starting up.

I have the same problem with my machine: a laptop dv2630ea. I bought my machine in England in February 2008, and after three months the laptop began to suffer of overheating and it switched of automatically. I sent my laptop to the HP technical support and they supposedly solved the problem, but since one months ago the problem started again. And now it's even worse, because I'm able to turn the laptop on after several attempts. And, of course, my warranty just expired 3 months ago. I have called the HP technical support but they just that I'm out of warranty; if I want a solution, I must pay for it. To top it all, by reading this forum, I know my machine will die soom. It's incredible the huge amount of people with the same problem and without any solution from HP. It's so frustrating and disappointing that this important company does not offer a solution for their costumers. It's so dishonest.

Anyway, I hope HP solves this problem and gives us some solution. To be sure, I wil never buy another HP machine again

Re: Help! DV2000 not starting up.

Same here for my dv2210us which was recalled, but my time period ran out, they say, in March.  This just happened last week.  It's 2 years old.  Can't believe it.  I'm trying to find a motherboard 440778-001 on Ebay, but the ones I find say they are not compatible with an AMD microprocessor.  And that's what the laptop came with!!  I will never buy another HP.  This should be covered forever.  Anyone know what the correct motherboard should be?

Re: Help! DV2000 not starting up.

Wow, the more I read about people having this problem, the more it seems like this is a huge problem with HP and their motherboards. PaulineSnyder, I have almost the exact same problem as you. My dv6208 is just over two years old and just about a week ago, it began have major problems with booting up (black screen with lights on, fan running). I read about HP's extended warranty for the problem, but I'm still over that by four months. Needless to say, I'm not too happy about all this.

Re: Help! DV2000 not starting up.

I have 3 x Pavilion DV222TX - bought 13 March 07 - two failed within 2 weeks of each other (12 months out of warranty), both with the same motherboard issue caused by overheating. Because my s/n's are not part of the widespread recall / extended warranty offer, they will not repair them, and want $900.00 per machine to replace the motherboard.

I have lodged action through the  Department of Fair Trade NSW, Australia. While HP can hide behind a 12 mth warranty, the implied warranty is greater than 12 mths. One would reasonably expect a $1500.00 PC to last longer than 24 mths, and for 2 machines to fail within a couple of weeks is too much of a coincidence.

If you have had the same problem, and are not part of the extended warranty / recall which seems to me mainly for US and Canada, use your consumer rights and lodge a complaint with your Department of Fair Trade. When they are so snowed under dealing with all the Fair Trade administration, they might realize you simply can't ride roughshod over consumers rights.

You can lodge a complaint online at http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/icms-public/complaint/registration/newComplaint.sjsp?complaintType...

Re: Help! DV2000 not starting up.

I have a dv2000 (dv2130ea) that is suffering the black screen of death problem and is not on the extended warranty. I have lights, fans, and HD noise, but nothing on screen. Not even the BIOS. Have contacted support, but frankly I'm not holding out much hope. Thought that if I add my voice to the growing chorus of people suffering that we might eventually get some joy.  OK, so I didn't take out an extended warranty but even a heavily discounted repair program would help to quell the masses surely?

And is it just me that thinks that manufacturers are quite happy to build laptops with components that will die after a couple of years (outside of warranty of course) in the knowledge that the cost of repair is so prohibitively expensive that we'll just buy another? It's about time manufacturers had some guts and pride in their products and offer warranties beyond what is legally required of them.

Re: Help! DV2000 not starting up.

My son gave me his laptop (p/n 2315nr) to repair. It suffers from the same problems as others here.  Seems theres no hope for us that spend our hard earned only on something and have to end up throwing it in the dumpster after a couple of years. HP should hang its head in shame. Anyway, has anyone actually determined what is causing these dv2000's to die? thank you all for reading this post!!!!
