Hi,

Unfortunately you did not provide all of the identification information for your notebook. you seem to have left out the dv or CQ or G that shows whether or not it is a Compaq/HP/HP Pavilion.

Remove your battery and look for labeling in the compartment that the battery was in that says p/n. Post that whole alphanumeric string here in your thread.

Re: Hp 6541ev what ssd

Download a free utility called Speccy and run it. Post a screenshot of the specs here. Speccy will tell you exactly which SATA interface your notebook's system board disk controller has.

My own preference is OCZ and Intel for SSD's.

Match the SSD to the SATA interface. From the Maintenence & service Guide I see your hard disk is first gen SATA. I suggest that you do not try anything beyond SATA2 for compatibility reasons.

You will still only see up to 1.5 GB/s ( it will be slower than that) transfer rate with a SATA2 hard disk. the SSD drives are downwardly compatible. they will only transfer data as fast as the controller on your notebook's systemboard will allow. So that means no SATA2 or SATA3 speeds.

I can't view them yet. It takes a while for a Moderator to review an image posted and approve it.

You can post it to an online image hosting site(Photobucket or ather) and then providing a link in a tpost in your thread. That is a considerably  faster solution to making the image viewable.

Re: Hp 6541ev what ssd

OK. SATA2 or SATA1 SSD drives will be the choice for compatibility. It wouldn't make much sense to put in a SATA3 SD when your disk data transfer bandwidth is not capable of more than 1.5 MB/s ( actual transfer bandwidth is more in the neighorhood of 300-500 MB/s)

The choice wil be a matter of your budget and ddesired useage. If you just want blistering speed and not that much storage space for a dual boot config then an SSD of 60-64GB should suffice.

Re: Hp 6541ev what ssd

Thank you very much for your help. I'll buy this one "OCZ OCZSSD2-1VTXPL120G 120GB VERTEX PLUS SATAII 2.5'' SSD RETAIL". I believe that I'll see a noticable performance to my laptop.

You sure will. You won't believe that it is the same laptop.

Be sure and go to OCZ Technology forum to learn how to set up and configure the SSD. OCZTony and the other super Moderators will help if you find yourself in need of help.
