Hp Pavilion dm4 touchpad problems

I have been experiencing problems with my touchpad for the past few weeks, but normally, once I restart, everything is resolved. This time around, I have restarted my computer and the touchpad and mouse buttons do not work. After researching the internet, I found that maybe doing a system restore would work, but still no results. I am not sure what else to do.

It is an HP Pavilion dm4 Notebook PC and the product number is XU440AV.

There is a fix for touchpad problems on the dm4-2xxx models.  Install both the updated BIOS and the ALPS driver:

Alps Touchpad Driver 7.206.1717.117 sp52422.exe

HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors)  F.04  sp53126.exe 

Let us know if this works.

Does that fix work also for a dm4-1160us?  My touchpad has been a bit finicky since I bought the computer, but I've noticed lately it seems to have gotten worse - the multi-touch for scrolling is a lot harder to use than it used to be...

If this fix doesn't work, can I buy a new touchpad and replace it - maybe with a newer (read: better working) version?

I downloaded the first driver multiple times but it didnt resolve anything. I downloaded the second link and it said that the certain BIOS was not for my computer.

The BIOS and touchpad driver is not common across all DM4 models.

Hi.  Same problem here (left button on trackpad stopped working).  This is on a dv4-1540us.
